As artists we appreciate copyright but it needs to be updated for the modern age or it will continue to harm creativity, harm public rights, and prevent new industries. Let's fix copyright:

Our Goal: No Internet Termination Law

The proposed replacement to Section 92A of the Copyright Amendment Act is an Internet Termination Law that harms many people for the actions of one. We don’t cut off a family's postal service if one person uses it to break the law. We don’t cut off phones or electricity because someone plays music too loud. How can it be OK to cut off the internet? The internet is now an essential utility for NZ homes and businesses. Read More

Our Goal: DRM Free New Zealand

Legally protected, Digital Restrictions/Rights Management (DRM) removes rights we would otherwise have, such as the right to copy music to your mp3 player or to copy text for educational reasons. People should be able to use their rights. Read More

Our Goal: No Companies Snooping on Your Internet

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) may force Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to reveal your private information if you are accused of copyright infringement. This is comparable to forcing Telecom to reveal information on who you talk to based on nothing more than an accusation, without a warrant and without court approval or oversight. This is an unprecedented breach of privacy and due-process and it's being proposed in the name of protecting artists. Read More
